As a brand that believes in the transformative power of the run, Global Running Day is always a holiday that we look forward to. To celebrate this year, we introduced the Brooks Run It Forward Challenge on Strava and asked the running community to join us in logging our miles to support under resourced high school running teams through the Brooks Booster Club. We also partnered with Fleet Feet on The Big Run and invited runners in more than 114 cities to celebrate by running together.
Tens of thousands of runners participated globally in the challenge and joined The Big Run on Global Running Day. The results included:
-3 million+ collective miles run on Strava
-68,000 runners signed up for the Run It Forward Challenge
-More than 20,000 runners joined Brooks and Fleet Feet for The Big Run at over 114 local events
The Run It Forward Challenge began on May 15 and concluded with Global Running Day on June 5. For every 10,000 miles run, Brooks committed to supporting an additional high school runner on a team in need. Through their participation in the challenge, runners secured support for 240 young athletes, meaning Brooks will donate to eight teams of 30 athletes each, in addition to the 25 teams it will support already this year through the Brooks Booster Club. The Brooks Booster Club is a needs-based program created in 2015 to support under resourced high school cross country and track teams. Booster Club donations consist of jackets, pants, racing uniforms, training shoes and racing spikes for the team as well as $2,500 in cash to pay for team expenses. To-date, Brooks has supported 97 teams by donating $1.3 million in performance running gear and cash through the Booster Club, which is just one way we give back to and invest in the running community.
Thank you to everyone who joined us to Run It Forward. This was a huge accomplishment and the perfect way to celebrate Global Running Day. We’re excited that so many runners rallied together for such a great cause. Cheers to putting one foot in front of the other and logging more #runhappy miles!
