Are you been searching for a delicious smoothie to go with your breakfast in the morning? Today’s recipe has you covered. Provided to us by, Kyle Paffenbach the nutrition consultant for the Brooks Beasts.
Without further ado, may we introduce you to this season’s favorite (we may be a tad biased) Shamrock Smoothie!
– 1 Avocado
– 2 cups Kale
– 1 cup Spinach
– 1 cup Pineapple *Add extra pineapple for a summertime taste.
– 1 cup Vanilla Yogurt
– 1/2 cup Skim Milk
– Blend until smooth
Overall, this is a great recipe because it is packed with whole, unprocessed foods that are rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber and micronutrients which are important for long term recovery and contribute to overall health. Avocado is a great source of healthy unsaturated fats, the electrolyte potassium, and Vitamin E, which is an important antioxidant. Kale is considered a ‘superfood’ as it is packed with antioxidants and other important micronutrients. Spinach is a rich source of vitamins A and C, as well as iron. Pineapple adds sweetness to the smoothie, and is also packed with vitamins and minerals, such as Vitamin C and manganese. Finally, the addition of the dairy provides a smooth consistency and adds carbohydrate, proteins, calcium, and probiotics. Often times smoothies are used as a recovery drinks consumed immediately post exercise. However, this particular recipe lacks the right combination of carbohydrates to protein for this purpose. Thus, this recipe is a great way to consume generous amounts of healthy dietary components in a great tasting form, outside of workout times. For example, you could eat this as part of a healthy breakfast, as it would go great with toast and eggs!
