Behind the Laces: The Evolution of Energize

At Brooks, we utilize a process called Run Signature to help you find your sole mate. We believe that the best shoe for you is a combination of your biomechanics and your preferred experience. Each footwear style that we offer lives within one of four experience categories – Cushion, Energize, Connect and Speed. There are some exciting new additions to the Energize footwear offerings for Fall 2018. We sat down with Jon Teipen, Brooks senior manager of footwear product line management, to learn more about Levitate 2, Bedlam and Ricochet.

The Importance of Energize

Everything we do starts with the runner and in-depth runner insight studies. We always look ahead to anticipate what the consumer will need and want from their running shoes. From talking to runners, we learned that some actually want a bit more motivation to hustle out the door and go for a run. They enjoy running, but they love it even more when their run is finished – getting started is the toughest part. If this resonates with you, you’re not alone! Having more energy makes running easier and we are excited to provide that energy through our Energize footwear.

Our expanded range of Energize footwear allows us to fulfill these varied experiences that runners want.

Fall 2018 Energize Product Offerings

Levitate 2
Levitate 2 is our update to Levitate, which was our first shoe within the Energize category to feature DNA AMP. While the Levitate was a success, we always strive to improve our footwear. With this shoe, Brooks delivers the most amplified, purest expression of the Energize experience with a lot of spring and energy from the DNA AMP midsole. Levitate 2 is best suited for the runner who prefers a neutral ride.

Bedlam is the Energize shoe for the person who wants a super springy ride but also needs their shoe to provide support. Bedlam features the same DNA AMP cushioning as Levitate 2 along with the innovative GuideRails support system.

Ricochet is a more balanced version of the springy, energizing experience. Whereas Bedlam and Levitate 2 will provide ultimate springiness, the Ricochet is more balanced due to the layering of DNA AMP and BioMoGo DNA cushioning. Ricochet is perfect for the runner who wants a lightweight and energized ride. It launches Oct. 1.

Look and Feel

From an aesthetic and fit standpoint, Energize footwear has a different look and feel when compared to other styles offered by Brooks. These new shoes feature modern updates and are more trend-forward in appearance thanks to the Fit Knit upper. This update to the shoe features the wraparound heel collar which fits closer to the ankle (and naturally, the foot), hugging the heel and providing a slimming look. The updated rib knit collar also allows the shoelaces to lace directly through the collar for a fine-tuned fit. The knit material itself is a technical construction that is breathable and also wicks moisture.
