Last week I made an announcement that 2017 would be my final season with the Brooks Beasts Track Club. Not that I have any interest in running for any other team, but I have decided at the age of 33 to make this upcoming season my last one on the track. After over twenty years of running, it was a decision that was not made easily.
When you compete at a sport for two decades you get the chance to be part of many teams. I goofed around in high school, worked hard in college, and made a name for myself as a rookie pro. However, it wasn’t until I joined the Brooks Beasts Track Club in 2014 that I really started to have FUN. Truly, it is this fun that has allowed me to stay in the sport this long.
Brooks is the Run Happy company and this corporate culture permeates through everything they do. Thus, it should come as no surprise that the Brooks Beasts Track Club is a happy and fun team. From my first day with this group of men and women I could tell that friendship, honesty, and happiness are core values. I assure you this is not the case on all teams.
What excites me about the Brooks Beasts Track Club, and what I am most looking forward to this year, is witnessing how my team continues to develop and improve without ever losing these core values. It is easy to be successful when winning is placed above everything else, it is much harder to do so when friendship, honesty, and happiness are priorities.
It has been a pleasure to run with this team. I am confident that 2017 will be a stellar year for the Brooks Beasts Track Club and I am honored to be a team member one last time.
