The Brooks Beasts just wrapped up an amazing year of racing at track meets across the world, but before they recharge and get into fall training, the Beasts welcome new recruits Amanda Mergaert and Megan Malasarte to the team! Amanda and Megan bring energy and an arsenal of racing tools, along with a deep and contagious love of running.
Megan joins the Beasts after a phenomenal collegiate career at the University of Georgia. Her expertise at the 800-meter distance along with her collaborative mindset will help push the Beasts athletically and also help evolve the team environment. “It’s exciting to be able to get the opportunity to train with some of the top middle distance runners in the country,” said new Beast Megan Malasarte. ” I love the Run Happy motto because it’s just a little reminder to remain positive and to run because of your true love for the sport.”
Amanda comes to Brooks with elite level competition under her belt and a track record of success and growth at the University of Utah. Her strength in the 1500m run and versatility at longer distances will diversify the tools the Beasts race with.
The Beasts capped off their 2014 summer season this past weekend with Garrett Heath running a PR at the 5th Avenue Mile, placing second overall in a time 3 minutes, 51 seconds, and Katie Mackey finishing eighth in the 5K and second for the Americas team at the IAAF Continental Cup.
The team picks up base training this fall, entering their second full year as a team. Creating and supporting the Beasts team is one of many ways Brooks commits to the run and helps to inspire others to participate in the sport.
