Congratulations to all 44,000 runners who competed in the Rock ‘N’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon and Half-Marathon races. Like everything in Vegas, the nighttime race was larger than life. The Las Vegas Strip was closed down and over 44,000 were running, including over 38,000 competitors toeing the line for the half-marathon—the largest half ever!

The air was cool as runners shuffled to their corral for the 5:30 p.m. start. While the sun had set, the sky was lit by dozens of casinos casting flickering shadows on the Las Vegas Strip. Hundreds of runners wore costumes, decked out as Elvis, Santa and others. Celebrities dawning race numbers mixed throughout the crowd. As the announcer counted down the start, the entire group was electric. 3…2…1… GO!

Among the half-marathon competitors were two runners who were back with a mission. The Bachelor’s Jason and Molly Mesnick had both run the Rock ‘N’ Roll Las Vegas Half-Marathon last year, but had not trained for the race. This year they knew they could improve on their times.

Two months ago, the couple teamed-up with Brooks for training. Jason and Molly were serious about setting new personal records and stuck to a plan developed by Brooks that increased their distance and pace in preparation for yesterday’s race. In addition to training, Brooks team members (my colleague Jessica and I) paced the couple throughout Sunday’s race.

And the result? Success!

Jason Mesnick finished with a time of 1:57:07 and Molly came in with a time of 2:17:47 for the 13.1-mile course. Both new personal records!

I beat my time by half hour, training really helped! Running with Jessica from Brooks was the best,” Molly Mesnick shared moments after crossing the finish. Jason shared his gratitude in the video below before joining with Molly and heading to the post-race finisher’s tent. Two months of training paid off, their mission was complete!

Congratulations to everyone who ran the Las Vegas Strip!

Did you run the Rock ‘N’ Roll Las Vegas Half or full marathon? What was your experience?
